Dronfield Cemetery
About Dronfield Cemetery
After 1870 the population of Dronfield began to expand rapidly and there was a need for a new cemetery. The then owner of the Hallowes Estate, James Addy, coal master, sold eight acres of the estate to the town together with the land, two mortuary chapels, residence for the sexton and the boundary wall.
The cemetery was consecrated by the Bishop of Lichfield and opened in November 1877.
The Cemetery was previously managed by a Joint Burial Committee of Dronfield Town Council and Unstone Parish Council. The joint arrangements/agreement (and discounted rates for Unstone residents) ended as of 31st March 2023 - as per a ruling made by North East Derbyshire County Council.
The Cemetery is now solely managed and administered by the Cemetery Advisory Committee who make recommendations to the full Dronfield Town Council.

Cemetery Record Searches
Grave Subsidence/Sinking
Our Outside Services team conduct regular checks of graves within the cemetery for subsidence / sinking. After identifying which graves need top-ups, staff will schedule time to carry out these works.
We recognise that seeing the surface of a grave sinking can cause distress to the bereaved, it is unfortunately a 'natural' phenomenon that affects all cemeteries.
Please contact the office if your plot requires a top-up of soil after subsidence/sinking.
