New gritting scheme

New gritting scheme

Dronfield Town Council voted to trial a new grit project at their December 2024 meeting.

The Council will deliver free 25kg small bags of grit to the more vulnerable residents of the community, who may require the use of grit, but may not be able to safely access a grit bin. Coal Aston councillor Mark Foster explained: "Our town is quite a hilly place and while we provide grit bins for public use, many older residents find these hard to get to in snowy, icy weather. We hope this new scheme will help them to get out and about safely."

The council also heard a report from the Gritting Committee that damaged grit bins had been replaced, spare ones were in stock, all bins had been refilled or turned over ready for use and 18 tonne was available in the depot for refiling.

Full details of the grit scheme are available on the Town Council website or on 01246 418573.
