New threat to green belt

New threat to green belt

Dronfield Town Councillors received a report from NE Derbyshire District Council detailing an evidence-gathering exercise to inform work on the Local Plan.

Planning officers from the district council are now collating evidence to underpin a new plan which will guide future development around Dronfield and the assessment of land for development wider district. This includes the submission and assessment of land for development.

Coun Angelique Foster explained: "This is a critical step in the local plan development process, where NEDDC is seeking sites to build more houses in the district. As before, this presents a potential threat to our green belt. I am determined that as a town we should make our views clear that we will oppose any further incursion into our green belt. We are not against development, but it must be in the right area. Crucially, there must be appropriate infrastructure in place to support the potential hundreds of extra houses. We are making our stance clear that we will not tolerate any building on Dronfield's green belt."
